LANOff monitors network connections and optionally initiates computer shutdown if the network connection to specified computers is lost. It can be initiated either manually or automatically via the Windows Task Scheduler. LanOff is part of the JSutils group of software utilities which have a theme of energy conservation. This freeware program operates by interrogating each remote computer via a small server program once a second. Up to four remote computers can be monitored or controlled with shutdown being initiated when connection to all specified computers is lost. See Using for information on using the program and how it works.
Uses include unattended backup and restore, shutting down computers when the operation has completed. It can be started via the Windows Task Scheduler at the same time as the operation is initiated. It can also be started manually to allow the host computer to shutdown automatically once a network task has completed.
