Izemail gives you the chance to encrypt and sign your e-mail messages, just by pressing the "Send" button in your mail program. No need to exchange encryption keys or certificates, no need to go through complex enrollment procedures. Izemail allows you to send an encrypted and signed message to a person if you only know their email address. Still, Izemail uses widespread standards for email encryption such as S/MIME and PKI. This makes Izemail compatible with any technology that supports S/MIME and/or PKI.
Izemail allows you to sign your email with a Digital Signature. You can use the signature that is provide with Izemail, or you can purchase the Digital Signature of your choice. Izemail works with any digital signature that complies with PKI, whether it resides on a smartcard, eToken or on your hard disk.

Free Izemail reader desktop software for your contacts A major bottleneck for using email encryption is the 'it takes two to tango' principle
Unlike conventional techniques, the patented Izemail mechanism allows you to send encrypted messages to someone who does not have encryption software installed yet.
Automatic certificate distribution Izemail automatically consults a database containing certificates ("public keys") of all Izemail users
This means that a user can encrypt a message based on just an e-mail address
Izemail users will never manually download or exchange certificates and/or public keys, there is no need to manually install certificates.
Automated certificate handling Izemail users rarely see certificates and they never have to
Izemail selects and uses certificates automatically: Zero-click encryption.
Use of multiple encryption certificates If you have more than one certificate for a contact, you don't have to select one certificate for encrypting a message
Izemail simply encrypts with all available certificates
This has two major advantages: it's much more user friendly and it allows recipient to use different certificates in different workplaces and still be able to read encrypted messages in all workplaces.

These certificates are requested and issued following normal PKI procedures
Certificates are delivered by email and installed fully automatically, so user doesn't have to go through complex web based certificate request and delivery procedures.
Certificate compatibility Izemail is compliant with two certificate or three certificate models (which use different certificates for encryption, signing and non-repudiation)
Izemail is compatible with all major PKI vendors (VeriSign, Thawte, Comodo, etc.) and with government issued PKI certificates.
Reading encrypted messages in different workplaces Because Izemail supports encryption with multiple certificates, you can read your encrypted messages in different places
Alternatively, Izemail provides easy backup, export and import features for copying certificates from one computer to another.
No 'encrypt' or 'sign' button Izemail is zero-click encryption
User doesn't select encryption or signing on a per message basis, but once Izemail has signed and/or encrypted a message, it assumes that it is easier and faster to always sign and/or encrypt rather than having user press a button for every message

In this procedure, incoming messages are encrypted with a key for which the Gateway has a private key, Gateway re-encrypts the message with a key for which Izemail Desktop has the private key.
Integration of Gateway and Desktop Users can use their Izemail Desktop software to configure messages for encryption and signing but actual encryption and signing is postponed until outgoing messages pass Izemail Gateway
Similarly, other features of Izemail Desktop can be transferred to Gateway.
