Everio Utility is a free tool that will copy, repair, and rename files from your camcorder.
This is a program that will do the following:
- Rename the *.MOD files to *.MPG. This is required in order to play the files
in most media players and to author a DVD with most programs.
- Copy files to a location on your computer that you choose.
- Fix the 16:9 aspect ratio problem. If you set your Everio to record in 16:9,
it will record properly, but it writes the files out incorrectly. Most video
players will think it is 4:3 and play it 'squished'. This utility fixes that
problem so that you can play them back at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio and
author a DVD properly using programs other than the one provided in the Everio
box. NOTE: some versions of Windows Media Player will still ignore the fix :-P
I have tested this on my JVC Everio MG21. From what I've read, they use the same
file structure on other models as well. Let me know if it works for you.
