Violino Estremothat is a tool that generates interesting sounds of string instruments to WAV files. It is based on simulation of moving string, relying on the basic laws of physics. However, the simulation is not shown, only the produced sound can be listened to.
Violino Estremo allows to set various parameters, such as bow pressing force (some may be badly named in English as I am not perfect in it). Setting extreme values usually results in no sound at all (I'm saying it just to avoid your disappointment or surprise).
If one is interested in the physics of the violin, one can find more here (University of New South Wales, again).
Using Violino Estremo is a bit cumbersome. I think about rewriting it as a VST plugin, but this will be in far future if I do it at all (summer 2007???).
The name, or rather the second part of it, comes from the first experiments, in which a mistake in calculations led to sound of a cat being skinned alive rather than of a violin.
