The asymptotic approximations are not valid for small samples. The ability to perform exact statistical tests frees one from the worries of the quality of asymptotic P-values. 'Exact Test' always gives you exact P-values, regardless of your data structure.
You do not need to collapse categories to meet the assumptions of traditional tests, nor to use some useless parametric tests. 'Exact Test' lets you conduct small studies and still feel confident about the results. And you do not have to worry about large data set with rare outcomes.
Non parametric (distribution free) tests may be applied to various distributions. Parametric tests are restricted to a certain type of distributions (for example normal distributions).
Exact Test is an ideal applicaton for analyzing data from studies conducted with small sample sizes, when the underlying data distributions are unknown or not normal.
Many of the tests in Exact Test are based on Monte Carlo Simulation. This is an iterative method to estimate exact P-values. The Monte Carlo Simulation will always give you the correct answer -- even if there are ties. The accuracy depends on the number of simulations. For virtually all tests the exact P-values can be computed (1000-10000 simulations) in less than 2 seconds for any data set with 1000-10000 observations.
